On Thursday, August 9th, 2012 the Board Members voted to sell the Wheelchair Van. BCVRS found that it was more cost effective to sell the van than to keep it. The Wheelchair Van was sold on August 14th, 2012. We appoligize for any inconvienence this decision may have caused.
On Tuesday, November 15th, 2 new units arrived. Both units are 2012 Ford Expeditions. These units will replace the existing units: 81 and 82 for the Captain and Chief. The Expeditions have already been equipped, inspected, and are in service. The existing units will be renumbered to 83 and 84. Photos coming soon.
On Saturday, November 12th, EMS Chief Lonny Gay received the 2011 Governor's EMS Award for Outstanding Emergency Medical Services Administrator. The award was received by Lonny at the 31st Annual Virginia EMS Symposium Awards Ceremony in Norfolk, VA.
Lonny Gay stated the award was a great honor for himself and the entire rescue squad. Lonny also stated this award would not have been possible without every member of the BCVRS.
On Saturday, October 15th, Units 73 and 78 participated in the 26th Annual Wytheville Fire Prevention Parade. Unit 78 was awarded Best Appearing EMS Apparatus.
On Thursday, August 18th, Captain Lonny Gay was named the 2011 Regional Outstanding EMS Administrator for Southwest Virginia. He has been a member of BCVRS for 12 years and became Captain in 2002. He also serves as president of the Southwest Virginia EMS Council Board. "Lonny is an extraordinary leader who has literally transformed a very rural volunteer agency into one of the best and most successful EMS agencies in the region," stated Director Gregory Woods Southwest Virginia EMS Council.
